Inbal Vermus
UX/UI Designer & Academic Educator
Design decisions shape how people think, act, and feel - and that conviction drives both my practice and my teaching. As a Senior UX/UI Designer and academic educator, I work at the intersection of human behavior, emerging technology, and product design. I mentor designers entering the field, teach at multiple institutions, and build products where accessibility and intelligence are not add-ons, but foundations. My teaching integrates AI-assisted workflows alongside traditional UX methodologies - because the next generation of designers needs both.

Beyond the Screen: Designing for Human Resilience in Crisis
How UX Architecture Reduces Cognitive Load and Drives Action in Emergency Situations
Part 1 - Lecture (20 min)
Abstract:
Digital transformation is often viewed through the lens of infrastructure and automation, yet its ultimate success lies in the human ability to interact with complex systems during high-stakes scenarios. As the frequency of global and local crises increases, the burden on users to process critical information under extreme psychological stress has never been higher.
This presentation explores the intersection of UX design, cognitive psychology, and emergency management. Using the Israeli Home Front Command application as a primary case study, we will examine how deliberate UI/UX choices - such as hierarchy of information, color psychology, and reduction of cognitive load - can directly influence a user’s ability to remain calm and take the right action.
Format: Lecture
Duration: 20 minutes
Part 2 - Workshop (approx. 70–80 min)
Description: Participants work in teams to design an emergency response solution that operates across both digital and physical touchpoints - an experience that lives on a screen but extends into the real world. Teams define a scenario, identify the key interaction moments, and develop a rapid prototype using AI-assisted tools. The goal is not a finished product, but a testable idea that bridges digital interface design with physical interaction design.
Format: Hands-on team workshop
Duration: Approximately 70–80 minutes
Part 3 - Presentations & Discussion (30 min)
Description: Each team presents their concept - the problem, the solution, and the key design decisions. The session closes with a group discussion on the challenges of designing for stress, urgency, and cross-channel experiences.
Format: Short presentations + open discussion
Duration: 30 minutes
Total Duration: 2.5 hours
Suitable for: Industrial Design / Product Design / Visual Communication / Informatics & Software Engineering / Systems Design / Emergency & Crisis Management Programs
Beyond the Screen: Designing Ethical and Engaging XR Experiences for Children
As Extended Reality (XR) technologies become more accessible, designing for younger audiences requires a unique set of ethical and cognitive considerations. This 40-minute lecture dives into the challenges of creating extended reality experiences tailored specifically for children. The talk is immediately followed by an open Q&A session and a group conversation exploring developmental psychology in design, spatial UI patterns, and the ethical responsibilities of designing immersive digital spaces.
Format: Lecture & Q&A Discussion
Duration: 60–90 min (45-min lecture + conversation)
Suitable for: Industrial Design / Product Design / Visual Communication / Education & Educational Technology / New Media & Interaction Design / Teams developing advanced tech for diverse user groups
