New Book Publication: Fifty Years and a Day, by Dr. Moti Gluska
Congratulations to Dr. Moti Gluska, lecturer in the Department of Politics and Communication, on the publication of his book “Fifty Years and a Day”, which explores the investigation of state failures through commissions of inquiry and review committees.
Written against the backdrop of the October 7th failures and the Yom Kippur War, the book examines Israeli commissions of inquiry in their social, cultural, military, and psychological contexts. It focuses on the Agranat Commission (Yom Kippur War), the Cohen Commission (First Lebanon War), and the Winograd Commission (Second Lebanon War).
Dr. Gluska, a jurist and Colonel (res.) who took part in many of Israel’s military campaigns, draws on his legal, military, and research experience to analyze the structural flaws in the civil–military interface in Israel and the country’s deficient culture of drawing lessons from past crises. The book argues that despite numerous investigations, the findings are neither absorbed nor implemented, and it proposes the outlines of a more advanced and effective commission of inquiry—one that could contribute to the comprehensive healing process Israeli society must undergo.
