Congratulations to the Communication Disorders Faculty on New Publication in the Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research

Warm congratulations to Dr. Devorah Brand, Prof. Katheia Edelman, Dr. Rachel Frenkel, Dr. Anat Ben-Horin, and Orit Leiderman-Badash from the Department of Communication Disorders on their new article: “Recommended Audiological Test Battery Following Combat Noise Exposure: A Clinical Approach”, published in the respected Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research.

The article presents a new, evidence-based approach to testing hearing in people exposed to loud combat noise, including both military personnel and civilians. The goal is to create a clear, standardized way to detect hearing damage—even in cases where standard hearing tests appear normal.

The recommended tests include:

  • Recording exposure to loud combat noise and related symptoms

  • Standard hearing tests (0.25–8.0 kHz)

  • High-frequency hearing tests (9.0–20.0 kHz)

  • Otoacoustic emissions (OAE) to check inner ear function

  • Additional tests for hearing responses and attention

This protocol helps detect hearing problems early and provides guidance for long-term monitoring and care. The research is the result of a collaboration between clinicians and researchers from several academic and medical institutions, highlighting the expertise of the Communication Disorders faculty at Jerusalem Multidisciplinary Academic Center.

A proud achievement for the department and the college!
