Congratulations to Tene Ariel, an undergraduate student in Inclusive Industrial Design at the DAN Department for Creative Human Design, who won first place in the European "E2i Student Design Challenge" for his graduation project – the LUNA Personal Protection System.
LUNA is an innovative hybrid personal protection system, developed in close collaboration with over 80 women and professionals in the field. The system includes a smartwatch app and a compact physical device featuring a flashlight, pepper spray, and a simple, intuitive interface that enables a gradual response to threatening situations. LUNA offers an accessible, non-violent, and non-threatening alternative—especially for women who are not accustomed to carrying protection tools or are uncomfortable handling weapons.
The system was designed with close attention to real emotional and operational needs, encouraging regular use and daily carrying thanks to its friendly appearance, convenient operation, and sense of control. The project demonstrates an advanced user-centered design approach, combining cutting-edge technologies with a deep understanding of human needs.
