By 2050, vision researchers estimate that nearly half the world’s population could suffer from myopia (nearsightedness), with severe cases potentially leading to blindness. In a recent interview on Israel’s channel 10’s program The Next Big Thing, Prof. Ariela Gordon-Shaag, President of the Jerusalem Multidisciplinary College, addressed the growing global concern and shared new research from our School of Optometry. The groundbreaking study examined rates of myopia among Haredi, religious, and secular schoolchildren—exploring how different educational systems may influence childhood eye health. This work places our College at the forefront of public health research, addressing the needs of Israel’s diverse communities.
