A recent Haaretz–TheMarker feature highlights an inspiring initiative led by Hadassah Medical Center and JMC to make advanced eye care accessible to underserved populations across Israel.
Originally developed during COVID-19 and expanded during the Iron Swords War, the program—led by Prof. Itay Chowers, Head of the Ophthalmology Division at Hadassah Medical Center, and Dr. Hadas Ben-Eli, Head of the Optometry and Biometry Service at Hadassah and Chair of the Department of Optometry at JMC—delivers mobile vision screenings using telemedicine and AI technologies.
A defining moment came right after the October 7 attacks, when teams from Hadassah and JMC provided eye exams to over 1,000 evacuees in the Dead Sea area.
With permanent branches now open in Beit Shemesh and Netivot, this initiative showcases the powerful collaboration between medicine, academia, and industry — and a shared vision to ensure equitable, high-quality care for all.
